The Satay Skewer began in West Pennant Hills in 1984 with a simple idea: good food, cooked properly, served to people who appreciate it.

 

 

 

What started as one restaurant grew into sister stores in Pennant Hills in 1986 and Hunters Hill in 1988.

 

Four decades later, The Satay Skewer has returned — this time from our kitchen in Cherrybrook.

 

 

 

But the philosophy hasn't changed.

 

 

 

Different countries. Different flavours. One menu.

 

 

 

The food at The Satay Skewer isn't about trying to make every dish taste the same.

 

Quite the opposite.

 

 

 

Southeast Asia is made up of many countries, cultures and cooking traditions, each with its own way of combining ingredients, heat, aroma, texture and flavour.

 

That's what we love about it.

 

 

A sambal should taste different from a Thai-style dressing.

 

A curry should take you somewhere different from a noodle dish.

 

And a good satay should have a character all of its own.

 

 

 

Every cuisine has its own voice.

 

 

Our menu brings together a selection of those different voices — giving you the opportunity to try something familiar, or perhaps discover something you've never tasted before.

 

 

Cooked for you, not for the masses.

 

 

 

We're a little different from a conventional restaurant these days.

 

 

 

The Satay Skewer operates as an online, pickup-only kitchen three evenings a week.

 

That means we're not cooking hundreds of meals and hoping somebody orders them.

 

 

We cook for the people who have chosen to order from us.

 

 

 

We take care with the ingredients, the preparation and the cooking because, ultimately, we're putting our name on every dish that leaves the kitchen.

 

 

And there's something else we've learned over the years:

 

Hospitality isn't about telling people how good you are.

 

It's about giving someone a meal they enjoy, making them feel that their money was well spent, and hoping they'll come back.

 

That's the standard we set for ourselves.

 

 

A little history. A lot of flavour.

 

The Satay Skewer may have started in 1984, but we're not trying to recreate the past.

 

We're bringing the experience, knowledge and love of cooking from those years into the present.

 

 

 

The menu is deliberately broad because we believe people should have choice without having to learn a new menu every week.
